# hybridathlete.guide

Site grounding for agents without the hybridathlete.guide repository: its seven charter files, unchanged except that headings sit two levels lower and every term id the pinned version defines, in the frontmatter blocks too, is followed by its label from the pinned version. The YAML blocks are therefore for reading, not parsing; the repo files are the source.

### BRAND

#### Name and entity
hybridathlete.guide, founded 2026, edited by Thomas Prommer and published from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Operator per the imprint: We The Flywheel. Entity home: https://hybridathlete.guide/en/about/ (`about.manifest.json`; the About page does not render from the manifest yet). Sister sites: hybridtraining.guide (training) and findmynextrace.com (race calendar).

#### Promise
The canonical, sourced definition of every term in hybrid sport, and reported coverage of the athletes and races that define it.

#### Personality
The sage: editorial, exacting, evergreen. It states the fact, then the mechanism, with a real number and a named study or rulebook. Third person, closer to a long-form magazine than a fitness blog, and comfortable being slow to read. Thomas Prommer is a byline, never a subject.

#### Visual pointers
`design/tokens.json` and `DESIGN.md` (Long-form Serif Magazine: Fraunces display, IBM Plex Sans body). Brand page at `src/pages/en/brand.astro`.

#### Do / Don't
Do: cite a peer-reviewed paper, an official rulebook or a named expert for every training claim. Do: give imperial and metric units. Do: hand training questions to hybridtraining.guide through the bridge components.
Don't: name a supplier in a definition unless the fact requires it. Don't: profile the founder or write in first person. Don't: sell, rank products or run sponsored definitions.

```
### Voice: hybridathlete.guide
**Status:** draft, derived from existing shipped content (glossary entries, the anchor essay). Pending review.
This file describes the voice the site already writes in, so new content matches
what's here rather than drifting page to page. It documents observed practice,
not a new house style being imposed.
#### Who is speaking
Thomas Prommer, editor. Direct, well-read, cites sources rather than asserting.
Writes like someone who has actually raced these formats and read the studies,
not like a content mill summarizing both. No persona voice, no brand mascot:
it's one person's byline throughout, glossary and essays alike.
#### Sentence-level rules
- **State facts, then explain them.** Lead with the claim, follow with the
  mechanism or evidence. "The interference effect is real but modest" comes
  before the citation, not after a paragraph of throat-clearing.
- **Numbers are specific, not decorative.** "10-15% reduction in strength gains,"
  not "a noticeable decrease." Every load standard, time band, and percentage in
  the glossary is a real, checkable figure. Invent nothing.
- **Short paragraphs, longer sentences inside them.** The essays run 19-22px
  body copy with generous line-height; the prose itself carries weight through
  clause structure, not through fragments.
- **No em dashes.** Settled 2026-09-19 (user decision): the site used them
  heavily in early content, but consistency wins sitewide. Recast with a
  comma, period, colon, or parentheses. Never a semicolon either. Every
  pre-existing occurrence across `src/pages/en/` (301 across 59 files) was
  removed in the same pass that settled this.
- **Bold is functional, not decorative.** Bold marks a term being defined, a
  number to act on, or a station/division name on first use in a list, not a
  paragraph-opening hook.
- **Second person is rare.** The glossary is third-person reference voice
  ("An athlete moving up from Open should expect..."). Essays allow occasional
  direct address ("You will never be as strong as a powerlifter") when making
  an argument to the reader, not as a marketing tic.
#### Structural conventions
- **Glossary entries:** term, pronunciation, category, then a lead paragraph
  that defines the term in one dense sentence before any elaboration. Section
  headers name a concrete category ("Race standards," "Training implications"),
  never a vague one ("Overview," "More info"). Every entry ends with either a
  training-implications section or a "why it matters" section, never just a
  definition with no application.
- **Essays:** an anchor claim in the deck, then argument built section by
  section toward a "shorter version" or equivalent closing distillation. Essays
  cite specific numbers, named athletes, and named studies rather than vague
  authority ("research shows").
- **FAQ blocks:** three questions, phrased the way a search query is phrased
  ("What is the difference between X and Y," not "About X and Y"). Answers are
  one to two sentences, self-contained: a reader who only sees the FAQ snippet
  in a search result should get a complete, correct answer.
#### What this voice avoids
- AI-vocabulary ("delve," "leverage," "in today's landscape," "it's important
  to note").
- Rule-of-three lists used as a rhythm device rather than because there happen
  to be three real things to say.
- "Not just X but Y" constructions.
- Hedging ("may," "could potentially," "some argue") where the site actually
  has a documented standard or a citable study: state the number.
- Selling. This is an editorial site with no e-commerce; essays and glossary
  entries end with a cross-link to hybridtraining.guide's training content
  where relevant, not a pitch.
#### Non-negotiables carried over from the org-wide contract
No em dashes (recast with comma, period, colon, or parentheses), no
semicolons as a fix for an em dash either, no flattery, no unearned
superlatives, no filler transitions ("Moreover," "Furthermore"). Say the
fact once. If a claim isn't sourced or checkable, don't publish it as fact:
flag it as an editorial judgment instead.
Note: legitimate grammatical semicolons already exist in some pre-existing
prose (e.g. concurrent-training.astro, nick-bare.astro) joining two
independent clauses. Those were left alone in the 2026-09-19 em-dash pass,
since the ask was em dashes specifically. Flag to the user if a full
semicolon ban (not just "don't use one to patch a dash") is also wanted.
### Structured voice profile (website-grounding, 2026-10-03)
> Added by the website-grounding run so the file follows `rules/voice-profile-template.md`.
> The prose above is unchanged and stays authoritative. Sections below point to it and fill only
> what it does not cover. Agent draft, pending owner review.
#### 1. Identity & Register
- Voice owner / who speaks: see "Who is speaking" above (Thomas Prommer, editor; one byline, no persona).
- Register: practitioner reference, long-form magazine cadence (PRODUCT.md Brand Personality).
- Language/locale: en source; de, fr, es, it generated from EN via DeepL with the Glossary Translation Override list.
- One-line essence: "Evidence-first reference voice for hybrid sport that states the fact, then the mechanism, with a real number and a named source."
#### 2. Audience
- Primary audience: HYROX competitors (AUDIENCE.md hyrox-competitors); also crossover athletes and scene followers.
- Reader's job-to-be-done: learn the exact term, standard or finding, then follow the scene.
- Assume they train and know the race formats by name. Always explain physiology terms, division standards and where the field disagrees.
#### 3. Tone Axes
- Formal   ──●────  Casual
- Authority ●─────  Peer
- Serious  ─●─────  Playful
- Concise  ───●───  Expansive
- Default editorial_track: factual in the glossary, pov in essays
#### 4. Person, POV & Cadence
- See "Sentence-level rules" and "Structural conventions" above: third person in the glossary, rare direct address in essays, claim before evidence, short paragraphs with full sentences.
#### 5. Lexicon
- Avoid list: see "What this voice avoids" and "Non-negotiables" above.
- Capitalization & spelling rules: HYROX in capitals; CrossFit, SkiErg as the brands write them; brand names stay English in every locale (decisions D-027, GTO list in src/i18n/translation-overrides.json); imperial and metric units together (PRODUCT.md).
- Domain-jargon level: high, with each term linked to its glossary entry.
#### 6. E-E-A-T / Experience Claims
- Authentic experience this voice can claim: not yet sourced. "Writes like someone who has actually raced these formats" above describes tone; a racing record for the editor needs a source (for example the race diary on prommer.net) before any page claims it.
- Named author + bio source: Thomas Prommer, editor (about.manifest.json people; https://prommer.net/). He is a byline, never a subject (decisions D-020, D-022).
- Quantified credential for bios: not sourced in this repo. Leave empty until the owner names one.
- Citation posture: peer-reviewed papers, official rulebooks and named experts; HYROX and CrossFit official content as citation sources only (PRODUCT.md).
- Original-data hooks this voice owns: the multilingual glossary, the competition board, athlete profiles from public results.
- "What I got wrong" angle: not used in the third-person voice; corrections are made in place and dated (about.manifest.json how-it-works).
#### 7. Gold-Standard Examples
- Example A (from https://hybridathlete.guide/en/essays/what-is-a-hybrid-athlete/): "For a strength athlete considering crossover: the endurance work is harder than it looks, and the rate-limiting step is usually patience with low-intensity volume. Zone 2 running is not physically hard but it requires hours per week, and most strength athletes have to relearn how to be patient with non-strenuous training."
  - Why on-voice: claim first, then the mechanism, addressed to a reader type without selling.
- Example B (from https://hybridathlete.guide/en/glossary/base-building/): "Base building is harder for hybrid athletes because lifting volume must run parallel. A common hybrid base structure: 6-8 weeks of 80% Z2 cardio + 3 strength sessions/week (compound lifts, moderate volume), followed by 4-6 weeks of race-specific intervals layered onto a maintained strength program. Skipping base in favor of an "always race-prep" model is the most common reason hybrid athletes plateau after their first year."
  - Why on-voice: specific numbers, a training implication, third person.
#### 8. Anti-References
- See PRODUCT.md Anti-references: supplement-shop blogs, Bodybuilding.com-era listicles, fitness influencer newsletters, HYROX or CrossFit official marketing voice, AI-generated SEO farms.
### STRATEGY
#### Mission
We give hybrid athletes, coaches and fans the canonical, sourced definition of every term in hybrid sport and reported coverage of its athletes and races, so they can learn the language and follow the scene.
#### Positioning
Authority depth first: a glossary of about 400 evidence-cited, brand-neutral terms, athlete profiles from public results, and essays that cite named studies. Speed of answer second: each glossary entry defines the term in one dense sentence, and FAQ answers stand alone in a search snippet. Locality third: the glossary is the i18n pillar (D-026), live in EN, DE, FR, ES and IT. We concede training plans, calculators and gear choice to hybridtraining.guide, and the founder's first-person voice to prommer.net (D-022).
#### Audiences
HYROX competitors train 8 to 15 hours a week and want the standards, divisions and physiology exact. Crossover athletes are CrossFit athletes adding endurance, runners adding strength and ex-team-sport athletes finding a second sport. Scene followers, including coaches and fans, read the athlete profiles, race coverage and essays. Reading is mostly on mobile, often between sessions (PRODUCT.md).
#### Competitors
HYROX and CrossFit official content (brand-controlled), supplement-shop blogs, fitness influencer newsletters and the r/HybridAthlete community. Source: PRODUCT.md anti-references, the essay "What is a hybrid athlete".
#### What we will not do
No prices, cart, checkout, paid plans or general buy CTAs. No sponsored content or paid placement in the glossary, athlete roster or competition board. No supplier named in a definition unless the fact requires it. No first-person founder voice and no profile of the founder (D-020, D-022). No T3 or T4 locales until T1 markets pay off (D-027). The only commerce exception is disclosed book links under docs/design/2026-10-01-book-affiliate-sections.md. Sources: AGENTS.md, about.manifest.json, strategy-work/projects/hybridtraining.guide/decisions.md.
#### Bets for the horizon
1. Grow the glossary as the definitional canonical across locales, so entries rank for definition queries (moves gsc_clicks, gsc_impressions).
2. Publish race recaps and athlete profiles on the scene desk to bring readers back (moves pageview_recorded, content_engaged).
3. Hand training intent to hybridtraining.guide through the bridge components instead of selling here (moves content_engaged).
### MONETIZATION
#### Revenue model
The site sells nothing. Its commercial job is to hand readers to hybridtraining.guide through bridge components, where plans, gear and calculators live. One line is planned: disclosed book retailer links, under the accepted owner decision of 2026-10-01 (DECISIONS.md), with no retailer links on this site in the initial release.
#### Disclosure rules
A page-level disclosure appears before the first affiliate link, with Amazon's Associate statement whenever an Amazon link ships. Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" and name the retailer. Book order is editorial; commission availability never decides it. No prices are stored or shown.
#### Not monetised
The glossary, athlete roster and competition board accept no payment for inclusion. No prices, cart, checkout, paid plans or general buy CTAs. The paid influencer directory and gear listicles named in D-020 are not lines here. A paid sponsor (the D-027 Wave 2 goal) is not a line: the published commercial stance says there is no sponsored content, and DECISIONS.md 2026-10-01 keeps "no sponsored ranking". Sources: about.manifest.json, AGENTS.md, DECISIONS.md.
#### Book retailer links, books desk
Planned, under DECISIONS.md 2026-10-01. The books contract allows disclosed retailer links once accounts and exact editions are verified. On this site the four featured titles launch without retailer links and bridge to the practical shelf on hybridtraining.guide.
```

### KPI

#### Why these metrics
pageview_recorded is the primary: the roadmap goals for this site are audience goals (weekly uniques), not revenue. gsc_clicks, gsc_impressions and avg_position show whether glossary entries rank for definition queries across locales. content_engaged covers reading depth and the bridge clicks to hybridtraining.guide (the site emits bridge_click and book_bridge_click events, which have no catalog key of their own). newsletter_subscribed counts sign-ups where the bridges capture email. affiliate_clicked stays at zero until book retailer links ship. crawl_errors and pages_indexed are the guardrails while generated locale pages grow.

#### Reading guide
Read weekly pageview_recorded against the `(site)` target in kpi-mgmt once one is entered. The stated goal is "10K+ weekly uniques by month 5" (PRODUCT.md); kpi-mgmt holds the target value. If gsc_impressions rise on glossary pages while gsc_clicks stay flat, the one-sentence definitions are being answered in the snippet, which is acceptable for the glossary.

#### Review cadence
Monthly through Wave 2, then quarterly against the 12-month bets in STRATEGY.md.
