# homegymequipment.guide

Site grounding for agents without the homegymequipment.guide repository: its seven charter files, unchanged except that headings sit two levels lower and every term id the pinned version defines, in the frontmatter blocks too, is followed by its label from the pinned version. The YAML blocks are therefore for reading, not parsing; the repo files are the source.

### BRAND

#### Name and entity
Home Gym Equipment Guide (homegymequipment.guide), founded 2026 by Thomas Prommer. Entity home: https://homegymequipment.guide/en/about/ (`about.manifest.json`; the About page and schema are not wired to it yet). Pre-launch draft with noindex.

#### Promise
What to buy first, what to measure before you order, and what you will never use, for a home gym built in the right order.

#### Personality
The everyman, with a sage's habit of checking the spec sheet: a lifter in a garage reading equipment labels at night. Practical, blunt and safety-conscious. It puts measurements and intended use before shopping, and it never pretends to have tested gear it has not touched.

#### Visual pointers
`design/tokens.json` and the locked `DESIGN.md` (Garage Floor: charcoal surfaces, stencil headings, hazard-yellow accents). Brand kit in `brand/`, portal source in `brand-site/`.

#### Do / Don't
Do: start with measurements (ceiling height, floor depth, anchoring). Do: give build order and budget tiers. Do: cite the manufacturer spec for the exact model and NSCA or ACSM for technique.
Don't: say "we tested" or invent testers, authors or credentials. Don't: publish "best of" rankings without stated criteria. Don't: quote sample prices nobody verified.

### VOICE: homegymequipment.guide (Garage coach)

> Loaded by /humanizer (Step 0) and the content publishing gate (drafting Step 1 + humanizer Step 3). If absent, both fall back to generic mode.

#### 1. Identity & Register
- Voice owner / who speaks: homegymequipment.guide editorial, second person
- Register: practitioner
- Language/locale: en (US), imperial first with kg in brackets
- One-line essence: The coach who tells you what to buy first, what to measure, and what you'll never use.

#### 2. Audience
- Primary audience: intermediate (lifters building a garage gym)
- Reader's job-to-be-done: build a safe, useful home gym in the right order for the space and budget
- Assume they know: basic barbell lifts. Always explain: rack types, safety systems, flooring, ceiling height, plate and bar specs

#### 3. Tone Axes
- Formal ───●─── Casual
- Authority ●────── Peer
- Serious ─●───── Playful
- Concise ●────── Expansive
- Default editorial_track: factual

#### 4. Person, POV & Cadence
- Person: second person, imperative in steps
- Sentence rhythm: short declaratives; imperative checklists
- Paragraph length: 2 to 3 sentences
- Structural tics to keep: measure-first checklists; build order; three budget tiers as bands; safety line on every rack and bar page
- Structural tics to avoid: exact live prices; brand worship; 'best' without criteria

#### 5. Lexicon
- Preferred terms: power rack, half rack, squat stand, safety arms (spotter arms), J-hooks, footprint, ceiling clearance, bumper plates, flooring
- Banned phrases (beyond humanizer's generic list): "beast mode", "gains", "no excuses", "shred", "elite", "game-changer"
- Capitalization & spelling rules: Brand casing per manufacturer (Rogue, REP Fitness, Titan). Units: in, ft, lb, kg.
- Domain-jargon level: moderate; lifting terms used, equipment terms defined once

#### 6. E-E-A-T / Experience Claims
- Authentic experience this voice can claim: none yet. No "we tested", "in our experience" or invented authors, testers or credentials. Claims rest on cited manufacturer specs and authorities until a real byline exists.
- Named author + bio source: added later by a human (TBD). Do not invent one.
- Quantified credential for bios: TBD by the named author. Leave empty rather than inventing.
- Citation posture: Specs from manufacturer pages. Exercise technique and safety from reputable bodies (NSCA, ACSM), linked. Tax and company-status pages cite primary sources (IRS, Congress.gov, court filings).
- Original-data hooks this voice owns: space planner dimensions, budget build tables with price bands, rack comparison table from manufacturer specs
- "What I got wrong" angle: the build mistakes lifters report most: rack too tall for the ceiling, no flooring, buying machines before a rack

#### 7. Gold-Standard Examples
- Example A (proposal sample, /en/equipment/squat-rack-buyers-guide/; replace with a published paragraph once live): "Start with the rack, because everything else hangs off it. A power rack with safety arms lets you squat and bench heavy with nobody spotting you: miss a rep and the bar lands on the arms instead of on you. Before you buy, measure three things: ceiling height (you need room to stand up with the bar and press overhead, or skip overhead work inside the rack), floor depth for the bar plus plates, and whether the rack must be bolted down. A half rack saves floor space. A full four-post rack is the safer choice for heavy solo lifting."
  - Why on-voice: build order, measurements, safety reasoning, clear rack-type verdict
- Example B (proposal sample, /en/home-gym/): "Buy in this order: rack, barbell, plates, bench. That covers squat, bench, deadlift, press and rows. Add a pull-up bar and flooring next. Cardio machines and cable attachments come last, once you know what you actually train."
  - Why on-voice: ordered, compact, informational framing rather than 'best buys'

#### 8. Anti-References
- bro fitness influencer
- Amazon listing copy
- generic 'best home gym equipment 2026' farms

#### 9. Other languages
Voice is authored in English. Translations (DeepL, then native review) keep the same tone axes, with these register rules:
- de: du. German home gym and fitness media use du. Metric (kg, cm, m). Plate weights in kg first. Technique sources: NSCA/ACSM or German equivalents such as the DOSB where relevant, cited.
- es: tu. Metric, kg plates first.
- fr: tu for voice a, vous for voices b and c. Metric.
- pt: voce, Brazil-neutral. Metric.

### STRATEGY

#### Mission
We help lifters building a garage or basement gym choose equipment that fits their space, training and budget, in the order they will actually need it.

#### Positioning
Authority depth first, through planning rather than testing: room measurements, rack types, build order and manufacturer specs for the exact model, each with a dated source. Price position second: three budget builds with price bands, for rack prices that run from $300 to $3,000. We concede hands-on testing to Garage Gym Reviews and similar sites, and we do not claim it.

#### Audiences
Garage gym builders are lifters, often barbell-trained, converting a garage or basement into a strength gym in stages over a year or more. Small-space starters want a compact setup in an apartment or spare room after cancelling a gym membership or moving. Connected-fitness weighers compare smart systems such as Tonal or Tempo against plates and worry about subscriptions and company risk.

#### Competitors
Testing-based review sites (Garage Gym Reviews and similar), retailer and brand content (Rogue and other direct-to-consumer brands), and generic "best home gym equipment" listicles. Source: briefs/strategy.md ICP b risks.

#### What we will not do
No claim of hands-on testing, and no invented authors, testers or credentials. No "best of" rankings without stated criteria. No unverified sample prices. No affiliate links, ad slots or listing fees until the owner confirms. Sources: VOICE.md section 6, PRODUCT.md anti-references, briefs/strategy.md.

#### Bets for the horizon
1. Ship the build-order, space-planning and rack-type guides as the core cluster (moves pageview_recorded, gsc_clicks).
2. Build the space planner and budget build tables as the reason to choose this site over testing sites (moves content_engaged).
3. Link each build step to verified retailer programs once confirmed (moves affiliate_clicked).

### MONETIZATION

#### Revenue model
Equipment affiliate links inside informational build guides: each step of the build (rack, bar, plates, bench, flooring) and each item of the three budget builds links to a retailer, through the Rogue Fitness program and Amazon Associates. Other direct-to-consumer brands are added only after their programs are verified. Nothing is live until the owner confirms (briefs/strategy.md). The strategy brief is an assumed default pending review, and no affiliate program is integrated in the site, so both lines are ideas. Time to revenue is about 6 to 12 months.

#### Disclosure rules
A disclosure sits near every affiliate link (FTC 16 CFR 255). No link implies hands-on testing. "Best of" rankings, if any, state their criteria.

#### Not monetised
No display ads and no own digital products in this plan (strategy options b and c were not chosen). No paid placement in comparisons. Technique and safety content carries no affiliate links.

#### Rogue Fitness affiliate, build guides
An idea. The program page was read during strategy research. Rogue pays out once the balance reaches 100 dollars via PayPal. No commission copy on the site until the program is verified.

#### Amazon Associates, build guides
An idea for items Rogue does not carry and for the small-space builds. The program page read was the German Associates help page; the US program terms still need reading before launch.

### KPI

#### Why these metrics
pageview_recorded is the primary, as the editorial-traffic template sets it. affiliate_clicked is the closest measure of the planned revenue and could become the primary once links go live (that would need a template_override). gsc_clicks, gsc_impressions and avg_position show search reach against testing sites after the noindex comes off. content_engaged shows whether readers use the long build guides and the planner. newsletter_subscribed comes from the template; there is no newsletter form yet. crawl_errors and pages_indexed are the guardrails.

#### Reading guide
Before launch every search metric is zero by design. After launch, read weekly pageview_recorded against the `(site)` target in kpi-mgmt once one is entered, and affiliate_clicked per thousand pageviews on the build guides once links are live.

#### Review cadence
Monthly until launch, then quarterly against the 12-month bets in STRATEGY.md.
