# fatcamp.guide

Site grounding for agents without the fatcamp.guide repository: its seven charter files, unchanged except that headings sit two levels lower and every term id the pinned version defines, in the frontmatter blocks too, is followed by its label from the pinned version. The YAML blocks are therefore for reading, not parsing; the repo files are the source.

### BRAND

#### Name and entity
fatcamp.guide (Fat Camp Guide), an independent finder and guide to weight loss camps and residential programs, published by Thomas Prommer. Entity home: https://fatcamp.guide/en/about/ (`about.manifest.json`, organization id `https://fatcamp.guide/#organization`). Contact comms@flywheel.bz. It is not a camp, a clinic or a booking agent.

#### Promise
Before you book a weight loss camp, we show you who staffs it, what the price includes and what happens after you go home, and we never promise a number.

#### Personality
The caregiver: a friendly camp counselor who looks out for the reader's safety and dignity first. It is warm about logistics and plain about results and supervision, and it never jokes about bodies. The playfulness is in the shapes and colours of the design, while the words stay plain. Source: PRODUCT.md, VOICE.md sections 1 and 4.

#### Visual pointers
Locked direction "Camp Mail": see `design/DIRECTION.md`, `design/tokens.json` and `DESIGN.md`. Shapes and rotation on navigation surfaces only; article pages stay flat.

#### Do / Don't
Do: answer first, then show what a day looks like.
Do: put staff qualifications, medical supervision and price inclusions next to every program.
Do: close every page with "Educational information only. Not medical advice."
Do: use "weight loss camp" in body copy.
Don't: promise or imply a weight loss outcome, or use before-and-after framing.
Don't: joke about bodies or use stigmatising words for people.
Don't: prescribe diets on teen pages.
Don't: list behavior-modification or troubled-teen programs.

### VOICE: Fat Camp Guide (fatcamp.guide)

> Loaded by /humanizer (Step 0) and the content publishing gate (drafting Step 1
> + humanizer Step 3). If absent, both fall back to generic mode.

#### 1. Identity & Register
- Voice owner / who speaks: Fat Camp Guide editors, second person, friendly; every page reviewed before publish
- Register: brand
- Language/locale: en (US English); other locales in section 9
- One-line essence: "A friendly, straight-talking camp counselor who tells you what a weight loss camp is really like, what it costs and what it cannot promise."

#### 2. Audience
- Primary audience: mixed (adults choosing a residential program for themselves; parents of teens as a second reader)
- Reader's job-to-be-done: decide whether a weight loss camp fits, and pick one that is safe, honest and affordable
- Assume they know: that camps exist; maybe the film or TV version
- Always explain: daily schedule, staff qualifications, medical supervision or its absence, what the price includes, what happens after camp, why no camp can promise a number

#### 3. Tone Axes (mark where this voice sits)
- Formal ────●── Casual
- Authority ───●─── Peer
- Serious ──●──── Playful
- Concise ──●──── Expansive
- Default editorial_track: factual

#### 4. Person, POV & Cadence
- Person: second person (you); we for how the guide checks programs
- Sentence rhythm: friendly, direct, medium sentences; a light touch of humor on logistics pages only (packing, schedule), never about bodies
- Paragraph length: 2-3 sentences
- Structural tics to keep: answer first; 'what a day looks like'; 'questions to ask the camp'; closing line 'Educational information only. Not medical advice.'
- Structural tics to avoid: before-and-after framing, pound counts as selling points, jokes about weight

#### 5. Lexicon
- Preferred terms: weight loss camp, residential program, participants, campers (teens), staff, medical supervision, accreditation, what's included
- Banned phrases (beyond humanizer's generic list): fat (as a description of people), obese kids, shed pounds, melt fat, drop X pounds, bikini body, fix your weight, transformation, guaranteed results, no excuses
- Capitalization & spelling rules: 'fat camp' only in titles or H1 where it is the planned keyword; 'weight loss camp' in body copy. ACA (American Camp Association) spelled out on first use. US English.
- Domain-jargon level: low; define BMI, registered dietitian, medically supervised on first use

#### 6. E-E-A-T / Experience Claims (anchors gate Step 7)
- Authentic experience this voice can claim: None personal. No camper testimonials unless sourced and consented. No clinician credentials until a real reviewer is named.
- Named author + bio source: Editors byline; 'Reviewed by' only once Tom assigns a real licensed reviewer (for example a registered dietitian or physician)
- Quantified credential for bios: Reviewer license type and years in practice from a verifiable lookup; never invented
- Citation posture: Primary sources for any health statement (CDC, NIH, pediatric and obesity medicine bodies); camp websites for prices and inclusions with access dates; ACA for accreditation.
- Original-data hooks this voice owns: once listings exist: share of camps that disclose medical staff, accreditation, price inclusions and follow-up support, by state
- "What I got wrong" angle: Where it fits, name the choice error (picking the cheapest camp without asking about medical staff, planning nothing for the week after camp).

#### 7. Gold-Standard Examples (few-shot anchor)
- Example A (provisional, from the strategy sample for /en/weight-loss-camp-adults/; replace with a published paragraph once live): "A weight loss camp for adults is a residential program, usually a week or more, where you live on site and follow a set schedule of exercise, meals and classes on food and habits. Programs range from fitness-focused camps run by trainers to medically supervised stays with doctors and dietitians on staff, so ask which one you are looking at before comparing prices. Check what the price covers: room, meals, classes, medical checks and any follow-up support after you go home. No camp can promise how much weight you will lose, and a program that does is a reason to keep looking."
  - Why on-voice: answer first, types before prices, no outcome promise

#### 8. Anti-References (do NOT sound like)
- Before-and-after weight loss ads
- Reality TV weight loss framing
- Clinical hospital brochure coldness

#### 9. Other languages
Voice is authored in English. Each language version is written natively for its market (handover 6.6), not translated sentence by sentence. Machine assist only through DeepL.
- de: Native German, "Sie" throughout (health topic, parents as readers). Use "Abnehmcamp", "Gewichtsreduktion", "Kur" or "Reha" only where the offer really is one; never a literal translation of "fat camp". Explain how German programs (for example Kinder-Reha paid by insurers) differ from US camps.
- es: Native Spanish. "usted" on teen, parent and medically supervised pages; "tú" allowed on adult fitness camp pages. Use "campamento para bajar de peso"; avoid "gordo" outside a quoted query.
- fr: Native French, "vous". "Séjour minceur" or "camp de perte de poids" as the market uses; no stigmatizing terms.
- pt: Native Brazilian Portuguese, "você" with a respectful register. "Spa de emagrecimento" and "acampamento de emagrecimento" as the market uses; never a stigmatizing translation.

### STRATEGY

#### Mission
We help adults and parents of teens compare weight loss camps on staff, supervision, real cost and aftercare, so they can choose a program that is safe and honest.

#### Positioning
Authority depth first: camp websites sell the stay, so the site wins by putting the facts a camp leaves out side by side, with sources and access dates. Locality second, through the state finder built on "fat camp near me". Price position third, through cost tools and plain lists of what a price includes. We concede speed of answer, because comparisons need context, and any medical authority until a licensed reviewer is named.

#### Audiences
Adults choosing for themselves: people who have tried diets and gyms at home and want a structured stay away from daily routine. They pay out of pocket and compare type, location and price. Parents of teens: parents researching a program with their teen, who need answers on safety, supervision and accreditation before anything else. Sources: `briefs/strategy.md` (ICP a, an assumed default pending review), `briefs/site.md`, PRODUCT.md.

#### Competitors
Camp and retreat websites, which sell their own stay. Reality TV and film coverage of "fat camp". Generic weight loss listicles that repeat outcome promises. Source: VOICE.md section 8, briefs/site.md.

#### What we will not do
No weight loss outcome promises and no before-and-after imagery. No diet prescriptions on teen pages. No invented listings. No behavior-modification or troubled-teen programs. No paid sort order and no fee tied to an inquiry or enrollment. Sources: briefs/site.md, briefs/strategy.md, PRODUCT.md.

#### Bets for the horizon
1. Ship the English page set and the state finder, and get it indexed (moves pages_indexed).
2. Win adult program queries such as "weight loss camp for adults" with comparison pages (moves gsc_clicks).
3. Make the questions-to-ask and cost pages the ones readers use before calling a camp (moves content_engaged).

### AUDIENCE

#### Adults choosing for themselves
Adults who have tried diets and gyms at home and want a structured residential stay. The trigger is often a health scare, a milestone or a failed attempt at home. They pay out of pocket and compare program type, location and price, and they worry about being judged. No demographic or size figure is recorded: the brief gives an age range and search volumes from planning data that nobody has read from a named system. Source: briefs/strategy.md, PRODUCT.md.

#### Parents of teens
Parents researching a weight loss camp with their teen. They read for safety, supervision, staff background checks and accreditation before price. The site writes for the parent; the teen is not a segment. Source: briefs/site.md, PRODUCT.md, VOICE.md section 2.

#### Excluded audiences
Not written for: families looking for behavior-modification or troubled-teen programs, readers who want a promised weight loss number, readers who want a diet plan for a teen, and general summer-camp shoppers. ### MONETIZATION

#### Revenue model
Camps list for free with basic facts. A flat annual or monthly fee adds a verified badge and a fuller profile after checks on price inclusions, medical staff, accreditation, background checks and follow-up support. Display ads may run on guide pages. Both lines are ideas taken from an assumed default in `briefs/strategy.md`. Nothing is live, and no fee, slot or number is set.

#### Disclosure rules
Paid tiers are labelled on the listing. The fee is fixed and never depends on inquiries or enrollments, and sort order is never for sale. Listing copy follows FTC weight loss guidance: no promise of substantial or specific weight loss. Legal review comes before the first sale. Source: briefs/strategy.md.

#### Not monetised
No per-lead or per-enrollment fees, no affiliate links, no paid ranking, and no listings at all for behavior-modification or troubled-teen programs. Source: briefs/strategy.md, about.manifest.json.

#### Flat-fee verified camp listings
An idea only. program_status is none because this would be the site's own listing product, not a partner program. Medically supervised programs can be health care providers under some state laws, so the fee must be flat and set in advance. Needs the owner's decision and a legal review before the status moves past idea.

#### Display ads on guides
An idea only, alongside the listings. No network is chosen.

### KPI

#### Why these metrics
pageview_recorded is the primary: the site is pre-launch and the listing model needs state-page traffic before camps will pay, so reach comes first. gsc_clicks, gsc_impressions and avg_position show whether the adult and state pages win their queries. content_engaged shows whether readers use the comparison and questions-to-ask pages. newsletter_subscribed is kept from the template for a future list. affiliate_clicked stays from the template and should read zero, since the site plans no affiliate links. crawl_errors and pages_indexed are the guardrails for a five-language page set.

#### Reading guide
Read the primary weekly against the `(site)` value target in kpi-mgmt once the owner sets one; none exists yet. Rising impressions with flat clicks point at titles and snippets. Fix a rise in crawl_errors or a drop in pages_indexed before reading anything else.

#### Review cadence
Quarterly, with the 12-month bets in STRATEGY.md.
